Patrick Allen bowled great all day, but did not have enough to beat fellow lefty Ryan Ciminelli. The TV finals started off with PA bowling against Tommy Jones. In a very tight match, Allen won 226-223, and went on to face Pete Weber. In another close match, PA defeated Weber, 212-206, and earned his spot in the finals against Ryan Ciminelli. Patrick Allen continued to bowl well, but Ciminelli was too much for him. Ciminelli won the match, 237-215.

Ciminelli, a former USBC Collegiate All-American at Erie Community College has earned his first PBA title by winning the PBA One-A-Day Earl Anthony Memorial Classic. Congratulations to Ryan Ciminelli!

This tournament was bowled on the Earl Anthony Pattern.

As the #1 seed in the PBA Lumber Liquidators Marathon Open, Mike Scroggins had the privilege of deciding which oil pattern the bowlers would bowl on in the TV finals. Scroggins decided that they would bowl on the PBA Dick Weber pattern.

The opening match had #4 Brad Angelo bowing against #5 Wes Malott. Angelo won the match, 207-192, and went on to face #3 Chris Barnes. Brad Angelo defeated Barnes, 256-227, and earned his way to the next match against #2 Pete Weber. Weber defeated Angelo, 233-212, and went on to face #1 seed Mike Scroggins. Weber continued to bowl well on the pattern named after his father and defeated Scroggins, 268-224.

Weber won the $25,000 for first place and his 35th PBA title and his first in the last three years. Scroggins had an opportunity to become the 2009-2010 PBA Player of the Year by winning this event, but fell just short. This year’s PBA Player of the Year is Walter Ray Williams, Jr.

Chris Paul and Jason Belmonte were able to come from behind to win the Chris Paul Celebrity Invitational. The final match had Paul and Belmonte taking on Norm Duke and LaMarr Woodley. Chris Paul and Jason Belmonte ended up winning the match 180-177. The first semifinal match had Pete Weber teamed up with Ludacris taking on Chris Paul and Jason Belmonte. Paul and Belmonte won the match easily, 175-131. The other semifinal match had Norm Duke and LaMarr Woodley taking on Hines Ward and Wes Malott. Duke and Woodley won the match 165-149.

There was a little added pressure coming from Garth Brooks as well. Garth pledged to donate $1000 to the CP3 Foundation for every strike that was thrown by a celebrity.

Congratulations to Chris Paul and Jason Belmonte! Next week is the USBC Masters tournament, taking place in Reno, Navada.

In the opening stepladder match of the 2009-2010 PBA One A Day Dick Weber Open, Bill O’Neill took on Ryan Shafer. O’Neill won the match, 226-200. Bill O’Neill went on to face #3 qualifier Pete Weber. Weber won the match, 214-202, to go on and face #2 qualifier Walter Ray Williams, Jr. Walter Ray won the match, 234-178, and advanced to bowl in the championship match against #1 qualifier Mike Fagan. Fagan continued to bowl well, as he had done all week, and beat Walter Ray, 241-213.

This is Mike Fagan’s first individual PBA Tour title. He has one doubles title, in the 2007-2008 PBA Exempt Doubles tournament with his teammate Danny Wiseman. Fagan came close to winning this same tournament last year, but fell just short, losing to Norm Duke in the championship match. The Chris Paul PBA Celebrity SNL Invitational will be taking place next week.

Mike Fagan used an Ebonite The Mission to win the tournament. See the rest of his equipment and the other pros’ equipment at my InTheBag page for the Dick Weber Open.

The TV Finals will consist of stepladder matches, starting with O’Neill taking on Shafer, with the winner going on to bowl against Pete Weber. The show will be aired live on ESPN2 at 1:00, rather than ESPN this week. This tournament is being bowled on the 39 foot Dick Weber Open pattern, which was designed to force bowlers into making constant moves because of ongoing lane transitions.
