The first college tournament of the 2009 – 2010 season was this past weekend, the SWIBC Fall Singles Classic. The first team tournaments of the season start this coming weekend.
On Saturday, September 26 is the American Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference Tournament #1. Last year’s men’s champion was Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU), led by tournament leader Tony Sambueno. Davenport University won on the women’s side, led by tournament leader Amy Salee.
The Sin City Open will take place on Saturday and Sunday, the 26th and 27th. The defending champion is the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV), led by Brandon Allred and Kris George, who went 1-2 to lead the tournament.
The inaugural Kentucky Collegiate Team Classic will take place on Sunday, September 27th. This event is only open to Kentucky colleges.
These tournaments get the season started, but the real kickoff will take place on October 3rd and 4th. The 39th Annual Midwest Collegiate Championships will take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This is the first Tier I tournament of the year, and it is one that everyone looks forward to. This is the tournament where everyone brings their best and gets to see how they match up this year against everyone else. Many collegiate bowlers consider it to be one of the best tournaments of the year.
900 Global Releases Remote Control Ball
900 Global has released the RC900, a remote control bowling ball and they are taking orders for it right now. AMF / 900 Global has set the cost for the ball at $1500. You can also lease the ball for $140 / month (24-month minimum). This doesn’t seem very practical, but it is pretty awesome to watch. They seem to market it toward bowling centers to rent it out to younger bowlers that have a problem keeping it on the lane. You’ll have to check out the videos to see for yourself.
